The Presentation Of Medical Story From Health Communication Perspective

The subject and study of Health Communication has been growing in considerably fast pace in recent years.However,some problems,such as distortion of the truth or even conflicted information,appear along with the development.As a result,the untruthful and biased representation has greatly distorted the public image of doctors and hospitals,negatively affecting the people’s trust on doctors and hospitals,as well as the health industry.Health Communication incorporates a wide range of subject matters,the most popular of which,is spreading health knowledge.Nevertheless,one branch of Health Communication,the subject of investigating and study of human and social context related to the process of medical treatment,especially in terms of social and cultural behavior and relationship,has always been dealt with lightly.This ignorance of social and human context is embodied in the misrepresentation of the status of health industry,as well as lacking of critical thinking while representing the story.Therefore,comprehensively representing the story in the light of Health Communication becomes significantly important,not only to the relationship between the doctor and patient,but also to the development of health industry.This essay applies the theory of Narratology to the study the medical documentary Ren Jian Shi(Human World)using qualitative research approach.The aim of the research is to investigate how Ren Jian Shi represents and reconstructs medical story in respect of narrative perspective,narrative language and narrative structure etc.Using this method,this essay attempts to analyze and find out an appropriated way of the representing of human and social context regarding to Health Communication.
