Objective:To investigate the relationship among the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)and phosphorylated epidermal growth factor receptor(P-EGFR)in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)with its clinicopathologic features and prognosis. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of EGFR and P-EGFR in ESCC and the pericarcinous tissue among 100 ESCC patients, and analyzing its relationship with the clinicopathologic features and prognosis of ESCC.Results:(1)The positive rate of EGFR in ESCC and adjacent tissue were 72%(72/100)and 17%(17/100)respectively(χ2 =75.531,P<0.01).The positive expression rate of P-EGFR in ESCC and pericarcinous tissue were 64%(64/100)and 12%(12/100)separately(χ2 =74.123,P< 0.01).(2)The positive expression of EGFR was associated with the differentiation degreep,T stage and lymphatic metastasis of ESCC(P<0.05),but it had no correlation with sex, age,pTNM stage(P>0.05),and P-EGFR was associated with the differentiation degree of ESCC(P<0.05),but it had no correlation with sex, age,pT stage,pTNM stage(P>0.05),but it had no correlation with sex, age,pT stage,pN stage,pTNM stage(P>0.05).The positive expression of EGFR was positively correlated with P-EGFR.(3)Kaplan-Meier showed that compared with the high expression of EGFR and P-EGFR,the patients low expression had longer overall survival and disease-free survival(P < 0.05).Conclusion:The expression level of EGFR and P-EGFR were significantly associated with overall survival and disease-free survival, suggested that they might be the predictive factors for the prognosis of ESCC.
