Objective : Smoking is a global phenomenon,it has been became a very hot topic in the world about the influence of public health.Long-term smoking not only harm the health of smokers,but also affect the brain-central nervous system,affect the mental state and cognitive functions.This thesis will explore: 1.To explore the effects of tobacco smoking on cognitive functions in first degree relatives of Schizophrenia.2.To explore the effects of tobacco smoking on psychiatric symptoms(SOPS,PANSS,MADRS,GAF)in first degree relatives of Schizophrenia.Methods:123 first degree relatives of schizophrenia patient with outpatients and inpatients of our hospital,their age between 16 to 30(including 16 and 30 years old)who do not have mental illnesses,and they are sons,daughters and brothers,sisters of patients.They were assigned into smoking group and non-smoking group,Smoking group: smoking more than 1 cigarette per day and at least 5 days per week,while smoking more than 1 year,is currently smoking;Non-smoking group: refers to no smoking or less than 1 cigarette per day and less than 5 days per week,at the same time,smoking time less than 1 year,or once smoked(smoking more than 1 cigarette per day and at least 5 days per week,while smoking more than 1 year),but now no to smoke for more than 1 year.Both group were given cognitive tests to evaluate the cognitive functions,and use SOPS,PANSS,MADRS,GAF to evaluate the total psychiatric symptoms.The statistical analysis method used in this study are processed by SPSS16.0 software,the measurement data were represented by mean + standard deviation,used the t test and the χ2 test,P < 0.05 the difference was statistically significant.Results : The scores of BACS-SC,BVMT-R,STROOP-word of non-smoking group were significantly higher than smoking group(P < 0.01).The scores of CPT-Actual number of responses-2D,3D,4D,and CPT-Reaction Time Mean-2D,3D,4D of non-smoking group were significantly better than smoking group(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The score of negative syndrome of SOPS in smoking group was lower than non-smoking group(P<0.05).The scores of SANS,general psychopathology,and the total score of PANSS in smoking group was lower than non-smoking group,have significant statistical difference between these two groups(P < 0.01 or P <0.05),except SAPS.The scores of MADRS and GAF of smoking group was significant better than non-smoking group(P<0.05),they have significant statistical difference.Conclusion:Tobacco smoking was harmful to cognitive functions of first degree relatives of schizophrenia;Smoking can relieve the negative symptoms,depression symptoms of first degree relatives of schizophrenia,but also can improve the general function of the first degree relatives of schizophrenia.
