Objective To retrospectively analyze the clinicpathological distribution, features and prognosis characteristics among 5616 cases of Hui and Han upper gastrointestinal cancer inpatients and analyze the clinicpathological features and prognosis characteristics among 2106 cases of Hui and Han gastric cancer(GC)patients, provide the theoretical basis for the diagnosis, evaluation and prevention of cancer. Methods There were a total of 5616 hospitalized Hui and Han upper gastrointestinal cancer patients involved from the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University during January 1,2003 to December 31,2012.Clinical relevant data including admission, sex, age, ethnic, occupation, blood type, alcohol and tobacco addiction, family history, surgical procedure, tumor size, pathological differentiation,Borrmann classification,TNM staging, outcome variables and survival time were collected and input into Excel spreadsheet. The patient was diagnosed as the starting point. All patients with upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery were followed by telephone.Calculated survival time as of January 26,2016.SPSS18.0 software was used to perform statistical analysis. The descriptive statistical methods were analyzed for the distribution characteristics.of hospitalized patients with upper gastrointestinal cancer.Life table was used to calculate the survival rate of 1 year,3 years and 5 years.Data collected were analyzed with the Chi-square test.Kaplan-Meier analysis test was employed to estimate the survival time.Log-rank test between-group differences. The prognostic factors were analyzed by Cox regression model.Results(1)There were 5616 hospitalized cases of Hui and Han upper gastrointestinal cancer patients. There were 4695 cases of Han ethnic group and 921 cases of Hui ethnic group.Han ethnic group vs.Hui ethnic group was 5.10 vs.1.There were 4325 male patients and 1291 female patients. The ratio between male to female patients was 3.35: 1.There were 1563 cases of esophageal cancer,1478 cases of cardia cancer and 2575 cases of gastric cancer.Esophageal cancer and cardiac cancer were mainly ≥ 60 years old patients.Gastric cancer was mainly < 60 years old patients. There were 3634 cases of upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery patients. There were 794 cases of esophageal cancer surgery patients,Hui and Han 1,3,5-year survival rates were 74.5% vs.76.6%,46.8% vs.52.0%,37.3% vs.42.2%.There were 734 cases of cardia cancer surgery patients,Hui and Han 1,3,5-year survival rates were 76.1% vs.79.8%,58.2% vs.49.1%,51.2% vs.40.5%.There were 2106 cases of gastric cancer surgery patients,Hui and Han 1,3,5-year survival rates were 78.7% vs.79.0%,64.3% vs.60.6%,57.1% vs.52.6%.There was no significant difference in the 1,3,5-year survival rates between Hui and Han patients with esophageal cancer, cardia cancer and gastric cancer(P>0.05).(2)There were no statistically significant differences between Hui and Han GC patients in age, gender, family history, blood type,Surgical approach, tumor size, pathologic differentiation and Borrmann classification(P>0.05).The occupation of both Hui and Han groups were mainly farmers and the distribution of the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Similarly,the number of Hui patients who had either smoking or drinking history was less than Han patients, which reached statistically significance(P<0.05).Hui and Han patients TNM stage was mainly stageⅡ which reached the statistical difference(P<0.05).Although the survival time of Hui patients was slightly longer than Han patients, there was no statistically significance(P > 0.05).Survival analysis showed that Surgical approach(RR=1.968,95% CI=1.650~2.349),tumor size(RR=2.417,95% CI=1.816~3.217),pathologic differentiation(RR=1.189,95% CI=1.053~1.342),pathologic M staging(RR=1.940,95% CI=1.112~3.384)Borrmann classification(RR=1.308,95% CI=1.106~1.547)was a risk factor for prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.Conclusion(1)5616 cases of Hui and Han upper gastrointestinal cancer hospitalized patients were mainly with gastric cancer patients.Esophageal cancer and cardia cancer were mainly ≥ 60 years old patients.Gastric cancer was mainly < 60 years old patients.Among the three cancers, the 1,3,5-year survival rate of patients with gastric cancer was the highest, and the survival rate of patients with esophageal cancer was the lowest.(2)2106 cases of Hui and Han gastric cancer patients have no significant differences in age, gender, most clinicpathological features, and prognosis except smoking and drinking history. Both groups of GC patients were mainly < 60 years old males with high degree of malignancy and short survival time.(3)Surgical methods, tumor size, pathological differentiation, pathology M phase and Borrmann classification were the prognostic factors of postoperative patients with gastric cancer.
