Objective To explore the prevalence of adolescent multiple adverse psychological behaviors and the relationship between adolescent adverse psychological behaviors and the coexistence of different types of childhood maltreatment. Methods A stratified cluster sampling method was used to randomly select 5,726 middle school students in three cities(Tongling,Chuzhou, and Fuyang)of Anhui province. One regular middle school and one regular high school were selected from each city.Self-reports on childhood maltreatment, depression symptom,self-injury and suicide related psychological behaviors were collected.Chi-square tests were used to compare the prevalence of adverse psychological behaviors in different sociodemographic characteristics students. We conducted a cluster analysis of the sample followed by a confirmatory discriminate function analysis.Logistic regression methods were applied to examine the association between childhood maltreatment and multiple mental health problems. Results The detection rate of depression symptom was 64.8%.The prevalence rate of suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation, suicide attempt and self-harm was19.3%、6.9%、4.7%、1.8%,and 21%,respectively.Female students were likely to report self-harm,suicide ideation and suicide plan than male students, which was statistically significant(P<0.05).The differences of self-reported rates of self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation indifferent grades were statistically significant(P<0.05)。Students in twelfth grade reported highest rate of self-harm,students in eighth grade reported highest rate of suicide ideation, students in ninth grade reported highest rate of suicide plan and suicide preparation, whereas students in seventh grade reported lowest rate of self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation. The detection rates of depression symptom, suicide ideation, suicide plan and self-harm were higher in the non-only child group than that in the only child group. The differences of self-reported rates of self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation in different self-estimate family status groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).Students in the general family status group reported highest rate of depression symptom, students in the poor family status group reported highest rate of suicide ideation and suicide preparation, students in the good family status group reported highest rate of suicide plan.Students who had a good relationship with both parents were less likely to report depression symptom,self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation and suicide attempt than those had a bad relationship with both parents.Students who had a poor academic performance were more likely to report depression symptom,self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation and suicide attempt than those who had a medium academic performance and those who had a good academic performance(P<0.05).Students who had more than three intimacy friends were more likely to report depression symptom,self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation and suicide attempt than those who had less than three intimacy friends(P<0.05).The respondents of this sample were classified into three groups: first group called no maltreatment cluster(48.3%),second group called slight maltreatment cluster(41.1%),third group called moderate-sever maltreatment cluster(10.6%).The results of discriminate function analysis indicated the reliability of the clustering analysis method.Individuals classified into the slight and moderate-severe maltreatment cluster were likely to have adverse psychological behaviors(depression symptom,self-harm,suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation, suicide attempt)than those in no maltreatment clusters(P < 0.05).Slight and moderate-severe childhood maltreatment are the risk factors of adolescent adverse psychological behaviors(P<0.05).Conclusion The detection rate of depression symptom was 64.8%.The prevalence rate of suicide ideation, suicide plan, suicide preparation, suicide attempt and self-harm was 19.3%、6.9%、4.7%、1.8%,and 21%,respectively.A Clustering analysis for childhood maltreatment showed desirable reliability.Childhood maltreatment is the risk factor for adolescent multiple adverse psychological behaviors.
