Objectives: To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of Chi-zao decoction for identifying the advantages of chinese medicine in the treatment of noxious heat type folliculitis. Methods: All patients were enrolled from the department of dermatology in Hubei provincial hospital of traditional Chinese medicine between march 2016 to september 2017,and conformed to the diagnostic criteria for noxious heat type folliculitis.A total of 90 subjects were divided into the treatment group(45 cases)and the control group(45 cases)according to the principles of randomized controlled trials.Subjects in the treatment group applied fusidic acid cream externally and took the Chi-zao decoction orally,200 ml,twice daily for four weeks, the main ingredients in the Chi-zao decoction including: Dandelion 15 g,Radix sileris 15 g,Angelica 15 g,Violae herba 15 g,Forsythia 15 g,Honeysuckle 15 g,Salvia miltiorrhiza 20 g,Bistort 15 g,Ligusticum wallichii 15 g,Red peony 15 g,Peony bark 20 g,Licorice 15 g,Spina gleditsiae 15 g.Subjects in the control group applied fusidic acid cream topically and took Wuwei-Xiaodu and Huanglian-Jiedu decoction orally,200 ml,twice daily for four weeks, the main ingredients in the decoction including: Honeysuckle 20 g,Wild chrysanthemum 15 g,Dandelion 15 g,Violae herba 15 g,Begonia fimbristipula 15 g,Gardenia 12 g,Coptis chinensis 12 g,Scutellaria 10 g,Phellodendron 10 g.The clinical efficacy was studied in the two groups one week after treatment and three weeks after treatment, respectively. The recurrence of folliculitis was recorded half a year after treatment. The clinical efficacy and safety of Chi-zao decoction were evaluated carefully in the treatment of noxious heat type folliculitis according to clinical symptoms and laboratory results of patients before and after treatment. Results: 1.90 patients were enrolled in the trial at the beginning,87 cases completed in the trial at the end.2.The symptom scores of subjects in both groups one week after treatment dramatically decreased compared with that before treatment(P<0.05).Meanwhile,the symptom scores of patients in the two groups four weeks after treatment was significantly reduced in comparison with that one week after treatment.(P<0.05).3.After one week of treatment, there was a statistically significant difference in the total effective rate between the treatment group(54.55%)and the control group(16.28%)(P<0.05).4.After four weeks of treatment, the total effective rates(95.45%)in the treatment group was remarkably superior to that(60.47%)in the control group.5.Follow-up of the disease recurrence for 6 months after treatment, there was a statistically significant difference in the recurrent rate between the treatment group(0.00%)and the control group(11.60%)(P<0.05).6.There were 2 cases appearing nausea and dizziness after taking the medicine in the treatment group, and 5 cases appeared vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea,or fatigue in the control group.Conclusion:1.It is considerably effective and reduces relapse risks for patients of noxious heat type folliculitis to apply traditional Chinese medicine orally.2.After one week of treatment, the treatment of Chi-zao decoction taken orally shows a higher total effective rate than the treatment of Wuwei-Xiaodu and Huanglian-Jiedu decoction taken orally applied for treating noxious heat type folliculitis.3.The treatment of Chi-zao decoction taken orally presents a higher total effective rates after four weeks of treatment, and a lower recurrent rate after six months than the treatment of Wuwei-Xiaodu and Huanglian-Jiedu decoction taken orally for treating noxious heat type folliculitis.4.The treatment of Chi-zao decoction taken orally has few adverse reactions, and provided a safe and effective treatment program, worthy of clinical promotion and application.
