| Objective:The aim is to evaluate the use of the dental operating microscope in the difficult and complicated root canal therapy, which may provide some indication in treatments of C-shaped canals, young permanent teeth and calcified root canals, root canal retreatment and removing separated instrument.Methods:5 difficult and complicated cases were selected, which need endodontic treatments by using dental operating microscope in Stomatology Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine from June 2017 to March 2018.In the advantages of magnification and illumination provided by the dental operating microscope, these root canals got fully prepared, shaped and filled by minimal invasive techniques.Results:5 difficult and complicated cases include a case of C-shaped canal mandibular molar,a case of root canal retreatment,a case of dental pulprevascularization,a case of calcified maxillary incisor and a case of mandibular premolar with separated instrument closed to the apex. All of these cases got successful treatment, and were observed satisfying clinical performance in short term. Conclusion:The dental operating microscope can provide sufficient illumination and magnification in treatment of difficult and complicated root canals. In comparison with traditional treatment using naked eyes,it assists clinician in observing complicated root canal system and seeking calcified root canals.Further more, using microscope combined with ultrasonic instruments can remove dentin and separated instrument in a more effective and minimally invasive way. |
