Objective: To study the effects of prophylactic aerosolized PVBL intervention on BLM induced pulmonary fibrosis. Methods: C57BL/6 mice were randomized into:(1)Control group,(2)PVBL(Polyvalent Bacterial Lysates)group,(3)BLM(Bleomycin)group,(4)PVBL,then BLM group.Mice were prophylactic aerosolized PVBL or PBS at the first week by day 1,4 and 7,and then challenged with bleomycin or normal saline through tracheal instillation at day 8,sacrificed at day 22.The survival status and body weights were recorded.Morphometry of the lung parenchyma and the content of hydroxyproline were analyzed. Results: Body weights of bleomycin-injured mice decreased. The content of hydroxyproline in lung tissue increased in PVBL group(but P> 0.05),and which decreased in PVBL,then BLM group(but P> 0.05).Prophylactic inhalation of PVBL significantly reduced fibrosis induced by BLM(P <0.05).Conclusions: Pretreatment with aerosolized polyvalent bacterial Lysates have some inhibitory effect on the bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis, and the specific mechanism need to further study.
