The English-Chinese Translation Practice Report Of Motorola MOTOTRBO^TM CPS User’s Guide

User’s Guide is not only the material for guiding the user to use the products, but also a window to promote brands and establish corporate image. With further development of the localization of industry, technical translation, especially the translation of User’s Guide, has become common in translation business, and gradually highlights its importance. However, the author has found that the current status concerning the translation of User’s Guide is so worrying that it should urgently be taken seriously.As a practice report on English to Chinese technical English translation, this report is based on a 19,000-word translation project the author had to complete within five days during her summer internship in 2014. The report mainly discusses, in this efficiency-oriented and fast-paced society, how to integrate Trados with human translator to realize high efficiency translation. And finally the author finished a practice report as required. Meanwhile, the author tries to find out the common operation mode for conducting technical translation.This translation practice report analyses the background information and significance of the translation task, and describes the task process. Meanwhile, it discusses the problems in the process of translating, and brings out the corresponding solutions. The solutions lie in the following five aspects:1) the difficulty of translating polysemes was figured out by adopting choice of word method in order to accurately convey the specific meaning of polysemes in the text; 2) passive sentences were processed by adaptation so that the translation is smooth and easier for readers to understand; 3) compound sentences were disposed by division for the purpose of conveying the key information with the concise language; 4) the problem of translating terminologies was solved by checking term base in Trados so as to make the translation in a professional and precise way; 5) the preservation of original format was handled by making the format painting in Trados into full use for the pursuit of fidelity to the original text. All these ways showcase the combination of Trados and human translator which improve the efficiency of the translation task in great extent.It is hoped that this report will have a great reference for the researchers engaged in such translation practice.
