Simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting are two forms of conference interpreting. Students learn consecutive interpreting first at both training institutes and universities. Therefore, What's the major difference between simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting. Researches so far have mainly focused on such differences (Chinese-English). To answer these questions, this research compares the difference in delivery effectiveness in English to Chinese consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting with empirical research based on Daniel Gile's Effort Model theory. The material the author uses is President Obama's address to the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. Both groups of interpreters perform simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting for the same material. The focus of this research work is ratio of information interpreted, accuracy, logic and idiomaticity. Students can improve their learning based on the characters of simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting, e.g. problem triggers. It can also help conference organizers choose the proper interpreting form.
