A Report On The Translating Of Woman In Business And Management: Gaining Momentum (Chapter One And Chapter Two)

This paper is a report on a translation project based on the first and second chapters of Women in Business and Management: Gaining Momentum which was compiled by Ms. Linda Wirth-Dominice for the ILO-Bureau for Employer’s Activities. It is part of the Bureau’s initiative on promoting women in business and management. The first chapter gives an overview of women’s position in business and management, reviewing the cracks might be bigger but the glass ceiling is still not shattered. And the second chapter analyses business case for more women in business and management, showing that women still have to deal with a number of hurdles to reach positions as CEOs and company board members. While they have advanced in business and management they continue to be shut out of higher level economic decision-making despite the last decade of activism to smash the “glass ceiling”.The translation project is composed of four parts. Part one gives an account of the background, objective and significance as well as structure of the translation project. Part two conducts an analysis of background study that comprises theory background and a brief introduction to the original text. Part three outlines difficulties arising from translation such as terminology, flexible use of words and complex sentence and solutions are given as well. the last part draws a conclusion concerning the lessons to be learned and the problems to be solved.
