| Chinese has become diverse between China and Taiwan since 1949 due to political and historical factors. In order to study the differences existing in Chinese language teaching, this thesis aims to compare the differences of vocabularies between two sets of elementary Chinese textbook, Far East Everyday Chinese from Taiwan and Experiencing Chinese Basic Course from China. In contrast of cross-strait words, the vocabularies in textbooks were analyzed for its formations and differential expressions and the relationships were further observed. The corresponding solutions towards variations were also suggested.The study is composed of five parts:Chapter I is introduction, including the value, subjects and methods of the research. Meanwhile, definition of relevant terms and brief literature review are covered as well.Chapter II compares the primary vocabularies between the Outline of the Graded Vocabulary for HSK and TOCFL word lists, and analyzes the differences in vocabularies.Chapter III focuses on the differences of vocabularies appeared in cross-strait elementary Chinese textbooks. Vocabularies are divided into three groups:synonym, homonym, and unique words, of which the variations of words are analyzed subsequently.Chapter IV investigates the relationship between the differences of vocabularies both in the textbooks and between Taiwan and China. The results show that cross-strait words influenced by loanwords and separate developments are the main differences of vocabularies in textbooks.Chapter V is the conclusion, reviewing the achievements of this research. Moreover, the deficiencies of the thesis are examined, which may be helpful for researchers in the future. |
