A Translation Report Of Striving For Better Jobs—The Challenge Of Informality In The Middle East And North Africa (Chapter 1)

This is a translation project report on the book " Striving for Better Jobs—The Challenge of Informality in the Middle East and North Africa"( Chapter 1) which was published in 2014. Although many different lenses can be identified in terms of informality, this book looks at it through the human development angle and focuses specifically on informal employment. It also proposes some policies to remove the existing barriers between formal and informal employment.In chapter 1, it discussed the evolution over time and macroeconomic determinants. By characterizing the scale and level of the informal employment in the MENA, chapter 1 shows us the relations between informality and other determinants. These complex relations provide us with a better understanding of informality, according to which effective and feasible policy options can be adopted.With a clear logic and ordered structure, this book also requires readers to obtain the related specialized knowledge. According to the highest principle of translation, which is the Skopos theory, during translating the most important factor is the purpose. This report’s purpose, with the correct translation, is to provide guidelines and references for those related people. Therefore, following strategies have been used during the translation: splitting, conversion, deletion and terminology.There are four parts in this report: Part one is an overall description which includes project background, objectives and significance of this project. Part two contains the author’s introduction and the linguistic features as well as the background of the source text. Part three is about translation theories and translation strategies that used in this report. Part Four concludes the report by analyzing the gains, lessons, and the unsolved problems.
