A Report On The Translation Of The Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-2015)for National Economic And Social Development Of Yongxiu County(ChapterⅠ-Ⅶ)

Owing to globalization, the social, economic and cultural development of China is becoming rapid and the relation between China and international communities has become increasingly close. As an indispensable media for the international community to understand China, foreign publicity text is of great importance in international communication, which not only enables international community to know the functions and duties of Chinese government, but also acts as an important way to enhance its international discourse power. Hence, the translation of foreign publicity text is necessary and meaningful. Twelfth Five-Year(2011-2015) Plan of Yongxiu County belongs to political text, which is featured with solemnness and preciseness. Thus, the translator has the responsibility to reserve the faithfulness, high political sensitivity and accuracy of the political text, and in the meantime, the characteristics of China’s political culture must be reflected as well.In the thesis, we will discuss the following problems:1) How to deal with the translation of technical words, Chinese culture-loaded words and four-character in the translation of political text?2) How to deal with the translation of extensive use of category words in the sentence and non-subject and parallel sentences?3) How to deal with the translation of political text on the textual level?Under the guidance of Relevance Theory, the thesis solves the problems from the following aspects:1) On lexical level, the thesis adopts the skills of literal translation, liberal translation, amplification and simplification to deal with the difficulties in the process of translation.2) On syntactic level, the thesis introduces the skills of transforming active structure into passive structure and transforming flowing structure into SV structure.3) On textual level, the thesis analyzes the skills of coherence and cohesion to make the structure compact.This thesis consists of five chapters. In chapter one, we introduce the background and the process of translation task. In chapter two, we give a briefly description of the theoretical foundation of Relevance Theory. Relevance Theory proposes two theoretical principles: maximal relevance and optimal relevance. In chapter three, weanalyze the textual features from the perspective of vocabulary, syntax, discourse as well as the problems encountered in the process of translation. In chapter four, we put forward some concrete translation skills to tackle the difficulties mentioned in the previous chapter under the guidance of Relevance Theory. The last chapter is the conclusion, in which the findings and limitations of the present study as well as the suggestions for the further study are successively summarized.
