Yu Yue's Exegetics Study Of Maoshi Pingyi

The Qing Dynasty is the top of Chinese exegetics,at the same time, the exegetical studies of the Book of Songs of the Qing Dynasty also entered the stage of all-round development of gold. Yu Yue, as a exegetical master in the late Qing Dynasty,he dared to explore,suspect and innovate. He devoted himself to the Book of Songs of exegetical studies and had achieve great successes. In the study of the Book of Songs and his Maoshi Pingyi had a detailed research about the Book of Songs and a lot of brilliant ideas. Unfortunately, the status of Maoshi Pingyi in the history has not been an objective and fair evaluation. I questioned about two hundred and forty items deeply.By analyzing Yu Yue'exegetics,I referenced to predecessors' research results,combined with poetry context, and to distinguish Yu Yue' regulations, learned the essence from the correct and reasonable items, criticized from the wrong items,and try to find out the truth.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction. I introduced the whole situation of the study of the Book of Songs in the Qing Dynasty, reviewed Yu Yue 's life and educational world research status, found the significance and methods of the research.The second part is the method of Maoshi Pingyi. Combining previous summary and Yu Yue's exegetical practice, I select some specific examples to illustrate five exegetical method including according to the explanation of the ancients,cues for sound,similar syntactic structure,grammar rules and combining the collation.The third part is the exegetical achievements of Maoshi Pingyi. This part summarized Yu Yue's contribution from four aspects. Firstly,his textual research method inherited Qianjia school. Secondly,he always set up a new idea. Thirdly,he paied attention to the analysis of grammatical phenomena. Fourthly,he choosed the right from the point of view of many documentary evidence.The fourth part is the exegetical error and reasons of Maoshi Pingyi. This part summarized Yu Yue's error from eight aspects. Firstly,he regarded two words as the same arbitrary. Secondly,he disguised replacement of concept. Thirdly,he refered to the wrong ancient notes,or does not understand the meaning of the ancient notes. Fourthly, he does not conform to the context and the true meaning of the text. Fifthly,he does not understand the syntax and the usual rules of the line of the Book of Songs. Sixthly, he might have a establishment of a narrow meaning according to the context or the only evidence. Seventhly,he increase the original text or delete the original. At last,he also has some other error.The fifth part is epilogue. Yu Yue, as a giant Confucianism in late Qing Dynasty. By analyzing and summing up his research achievements and the source of error,so as to evaluate Yu Yue's academic status of the Book of Songs objectively.
