Escort Interpreting Practice Report In EU-China Business And Technology Cooperation Fair

Interpreting begins to spring along with the increasingly international communication, and interpreters fill the gap among different peoples and different cultures with varied languages. As the most basic and the most common branch in various interpreting types, escort interpreting remains the major kind of professional interpreting, practiced by a large number of interpreters who might be impeded by countless problems at the beginning. Those problems might confuse and overwhelm the interpreters, including the author.Luckily, the participation of 9th EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair(ECBTCF) provides a great opportunity to practice the interpreting skills as well as to find out the problems for the author who made a thorough study after it,analyzing mistakes and dilemmas in the interpreting course, and then the author finish this thesis with the help of structure of the Adaptation theory by Jef. Verschueren.The thesis includes the background information of 9th EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair, detailing the preparation work done by the author. Then the author lists the main problems happened in the process of interpreting, classifying them according to the basic linguistic categories. The author also makes comments on the problems and proposes the possible solutions after the case analysis, applying the Adaptation Theory into the practice. The last part of the thesis summarizes the whole interpreting process, making assessments from different perspectives.In this thesis, the author categorizes mistakes and problems that were experienced during the 9th ECBTCF, treating them as the stereotypes to fumble some solutions to prevent the similar mistakes. It might be safe to say that this work can be regarded as a cornerstone for the author’s interpreting career; in turn, the author also hopes share the retrospection to those who just started the interpreting career just like the author did.
