Zhou Zuoren And Japanese Yogaku

In the historical background of Western learning spreading to the East,the thesis explores Zhou Zuoren’s early Western adoption and ideological resources form the history of the Japanese Yogaku dissemination and the development of Chinese western learning during the New-Cultural Movement period.Zhou Zuoren recommend the western advanced thoughts of rationalism and humanism to construct the new Chinese literature and to seek to revive Chinese culture.There are three main parts of the whole passage as follows:The first part presents the overview of Japanese Yogaku,discussing the research status between China and Japan on Yogaku and giving the definition of Yogaku.Yogaku equivalents to Chinese language western learning,which refers to enter Japan’s western academic.This chapter mainly explores the historical background in the New-Cultural Movement period of Zhou Zuoren’s thought.Japanese Yogaku developments experienced three phases: the naorchidology;Langaku;and Japanese Yogaku beforeKaikoku.Especially the development of Langaku,Japan managed to run into the way of early capitalistic modernization and succeed in avoiding the colonial historical tragedy.Therefore,it would be a good role model for Chinese to learn and practice,and it is why Zhou Zuoren and other intellectuals went to Japan in the late 19 th and early 20 th century.The second chapter introduces Zhou Zuoren and Yogaku.Zhou Zuoren’s early Western adoption with science and literature are expounded in this chapter.Zhou Zuoren accepted early western scientific mainly from the science medical point,especially in anatomy,which led to the formation of Zhou Zuoren rationalism ideology.From the perspective of the translation history with Aesop’s Fables and The Imitation of Christ,two representatives of the western classical literature and religious literature,part two Zhou Zuoren’s humanistic thought formation and development.Chapter three is Yogaku essence and Zhou Zuoren thought foundation.In May Forth period,Zhou Zuoren,in the development of Chinese new literature and the Renaissance of Chinese road in the process of exploration,combined the modern factors in Greek culture,humanism in Christian culture and Chinese traditional culture which designed a grand blueprint for the development of the Chinese literature.This thesis adopts the method of close reading and historical textualresearch to get a systematical analysis about he early Zhou Zuoren’s western view and literary thought in the text form multi-angles,in order to value his academic history heritage,providing a few references for the later researchers.
