Higher vocational education is the compliment of higher education in China and it is more and more important. Higher vocational English teaching innovation has attracted in order to meet the need for qualified personnel. High vocational English teachers are the leading roles in English teaching innovation. It’s very important for them to do these thing.(how to copy with the innovation situation, how to plan the professional development)Many high vocational colleges were technical secondary schools before, so English teachers in these colleges don’t have teaching experience in high vocational college.Many English teachers don’t understand English Curriculum Requirements in Higher Vocational Education and can’t distinguish high vocational education and high education in English. Teachers’ professional development is the core and realistic demand of construction of teacher team against a background of English curriculum innovation. So I investigated English teachers in five higher vocational colleges in this area(Nanchang Teachers’ College, Jiangxi Tourism and Commerce College, Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies, Jiangxi Agriculture and Engineering College, Jiangxi Biotech Vocational College).This study took fifty-eight English teachers from one hundred and twenty-six English teachers in five higher vocational colleges randomly as investigation objects in order to find the problems of English teachers’ professional development in this area and then analyze the data. Use this way to know the factors and explore the solutions to the problems in higher vocational college English teachers’ professional development to give support to high vocational English teaching innovation and personnel training in the new situation. During the investigation, I mainly investigated basic information of English teachers, professional belief, professional knowledge, professional skills and application of English teachers in higher vocational colleges. And this thesis analyzed the problems of this topic, such as: teaching staff is not well-structured; teaching staff is not stable;teachers ’ professional belief is weak; teachers ’ consciousness of professional development is not strong; teachers’ professional knowledge is not thorough; teachers’ management ability is not good; English teaching ability is not enough; English teachers’ researching ability is insufficient; the input in higher vocational education is not enough.According to the problems in this top, this paper raised the following suggestions to improve English teachers’ professional development of higher vocational colleges: First,teachers’ autonomous development; Second, innovation of thinking and optimization of school management; Third, education department must give support.
