Research On The Themes Of China’s Domestic Youth Movies

Youth movies are relatively mature and play a very important role in the movie market in Europe and America.While in China,the development of youth movies has been less than satisfactory due to various reasons.There are some of youth movies in China,and their theme is to highlight the large time background.However,in 2003,the movie So Young did a very good job at the box office,youth movie accessed to an unprecedented level of success.After So Young,China’s domestic youth movies,like American Dreams in China,Tiny Times series,Fleet of Time,The Left Ear,My Old Classmate,and so on,have sprung up like mushrooms to take out of the film market and have received extensive attention.This batch of movies focuses on the post-80s,post-90s,and post00s,showing the characteristics of the youth of this generation with rich youth colors and symbolic youth symbols.There are few articles which summarize the themes of youth movies and are not systemic enough.In this thesis,the author combs the themes of China’s domestic youth movies in the last three years,and then sums up the unique charm of youth movies’ theme of the mainland.This thesis is made up of three parts:First of all,the development situation of mainland youth movies is summarized.The development situation of mainland youth movies from 2013 to 2015 is concluded from the overall direction of movie development.Since 2013,mainland youth movies have flourished and box office increases continuously.As to the theme,it is concluded that mainland youth movies are made in the same way-youth consumption.In view of expression content,directors usually expresses youth with "exaggerated" and "extreme"elements.In the second part,the themes of youth movies including sorrowful and cruel youth,regretful youth,inspirational youth and warm youth are presented.Then,these four themes are subdivided.Firstly,two themes are involved into the sorrowful and cruel youth,i.e.,self-destruction and redemption and youth imprints.For self-destruction and redemption,Fang Hui in Fleet of Time is taken as an example to explain cruel and painful cost in the process of growth as well as reborn life;for youth imprints,Young Style indicates that each symbol is a imprint in one’s youth by taking Ju Ran and Huang Jingjing as examples and there is always some haunted obsessions becoming youth imprints.Secondly,regretful youth includes two themes,which are that everyone has been young and regretful before and it is sentimental to recall youth.Goodbye Mr.Loser and So Young show that it is unavoidable that every one has a regretful youth;Fleet of Time elaborates that youth recalling is highlighted in youth movies.Many youth movies occupy the market with affective strategies in the name of recalling youth and bring back memories of the generations after 80s and 90s with schoolyard,classroom and love.Thirdly,inspirational youth is composed of two themes,one of which is the road to reality and the other one is self transformation.With regard to American Dreams in China,"American dream" of the three leading actors is broken while their "Chinese dream" comes true,suggesting that the road to success is twisted and forward.The personal growth experience of "Cheng Dongqing" is used to indicate that you will sow something as long as you dare to think and do and bear hardships and stand hard work,which describes the growth road of young people.Fourthly,positive youth and energy and relationship between friend and lover are the two themes of warm youth.Girls’ March shows the power of your,my and her friends in their youth;"youth" and the affection of the two girlfriends beyond friendship reflect the theme-bosom friends.The third part mainly introduces the peculiar charm of youth movies,including personal transformation,everyone has been young before as well as power of youth and power of friendship.The unique characteristics of youth movies are thoroughly analyzed through a discussion on these four parts.
