Master Hong Yi assembled the characteristics of Chinese Buddhist Disciplines in modern times, honored as the eleventh founder of Chinese Vinaya School. He had been a devout believer in Pure Land Buddhism and developed the traditions of Chinese Vinaya School during his lifetime, and made an important contribution to preaching Chinese Buddhist Disciplines. Master Hong Yi dived into and stuck religiously to the commandments through his life while collating considerable collections. He insisted on the opinion that people should abide by the commandments at home, as well as propagate the true substance of Pure Land Buddhism, which greatly contributed to the education of talented people and the maintenance of Chinese Buddhist Disciplines. This paper will focus on Master Hong YI’s academic experience as a foundation, and give a brief introduction of other’s origins of religious belief. This paper will also reveal the Dharma practices and thought contributions of Master Hong Yi comprehensively, based on his Buddhism monographs and relevant literatures.
