The Italian Decadentism is a very important part of Italian literature which includes aestheticism, expressionism, nihilism, etc.. Its current research is generally divided into two parts, first is the study of the writers represented by D'Annunzio, which is influenced by the German philosopher Nietzsche's theory of "Superman", believing that people can transcend everything, and the writers can create decadent myth to get through the crisis; the other part is the study of the spiritual crisis in the late Decadentism by Pirandello and Italo Svevo. With a clear understanding of the spiritual crisis, the authors focus more on the spiritual world instead of the material society. So Italo Svevo pays more attention to the psychological analysis, which has a cross with the philosophy study. Therefore, whether it is analyzed from the perspective of a purely literary writing or that of the literary criticism, the late decadent works have quite a high literature value in the further study. For a long time, the research on the Italian Decadentism is often limited in negative literary criticism or a simple argument. Some was conducted from the perspective of pure philosophy to study texts and literature; some was combined with certain literary critical theory, such as aesthetic doctrine and the associated theory for a single study of individual literature works; some was also analyzed from a historical perspective to introduce the sociology of decadent development process. However, few researchers chose to start from some specific texts to study the writers and the literary theory. Therefore, this thesis takes the Italian writer Italo Svevo's three literary works Una vita, Senilita and La coscenza di Zeno as the research object. Firstly it points out theoretically the basic characteristics of his writing from the historical and cultural backgrounds of Svevo-the rise and development of the decadent literary; secondly, it summarizes the different personality and fate of the three "inetto" in the conflict between the reality and the self when they encounter the spiritual crisis in different periods by analyzing the decadent element of the three works-"inetto"; thirdly, it analyzes their way to get out of the spirit crisis and complete their self-redemption, as well as the writer's personal experience and spiritual crisis, revealing the association between the writer and the "inetto", as well as his own self-redemption. Finally, it explains the literary value of Svevo's decadent writing both from the literary and practical aspect with the interpretation of the relationship between Italo Svevo's decadent writing and his self-redemption.
