Since the new century, the Chinese films adapted from online novels have grown to a force that cannot be neglected in movie and TV creation. The adaptations, along with the market economy, have prevailed as a mass culture in the context of the consumption era. With the help of Bakhtin's Carnival Theory, this thesis dose an overall study on the Chinese film adapted from online novels with four chapters:the current situation of the adaptation of online novels, the construction of the carnival theory in the image text, the causes, advantages and disadvantages of the image carnival and some consideration of its future trend. The first chapter is an overall view of the current situation of the adaptation of online novels. Brutal cold harem battles, a variety of love stories, vulgar and fun family ethical play constitute the carnival themes and variations; the narrative space of virtual-actual combination shows the contemporary state of human existence and the time features of Carnival Theory; finally, the typical carnival figures, like "clown", "fool" and "liar" appear with diversified personalities in the nowadays films from the adaptation of the online novel works; in addition, bodies and languages are exploited to the extreme under the impregnation of consumption environment. By analyzing the specific texts, the directors elaborated in detail carnival construction in the film texts. The third chapter analyzes the causes of formation of the image carnival from the macro and micro aspects:on the one hand, the development of market economy multiculturalism, science and technology under the background of globalization, or the other hand, the build-in carnival-like features of the texts of online novels, for instance, the vulgar language, the civilian narrative style, and the rich and complex content, etc.On the basis of the above, the paper continues to discuss the positive values and negative effects brought about by the film carnival, then the author makes a reasonable prediction about the future direction of the carnival as well as her certain recommendations:films and televisions adapted from online novels are earthly, relaxing and close to civilian life, but also with a tendency of money worship and materialism. The author hopes that films and televisions adapted from novels will nenetrate real life, reflect the snirit of the times and guide the mainstream values.
