Yuan Poetic Drama And Etiquette

Yuan poetic drama contains a lot of describtions concerns social etiquettes which governs from family courtesy, social meeting etiquette,marriage and betrothal etiquette,sacrifice and worship etiquette and guest-receiving etiquette. All those discriptions about etiquettes in the Yuan poetic drama were originally coming from classical social conventions confucian books such as The book of Zhou Rites,Etiquette and Ceremonial, The book of Rites, and so on, some of them were vivid epitomes of the Yuan dynasty. However, we should also noticed the fact that those social ettiquetes appears in the Yuan poetic dramas were different from the real world,it was paticularly reflected in the sacrifice and worship etiquette,marriage and betrothal etiquette. The forming reasons of those differences lies in two aspects, first of all is because of the limited capacities of the Yuan poetic drama, in order to be more favorable to the readers, those etiquettes in the drama were processed and purified. Secondlly is because of the limiteness of the drama writers,their knowledge of social etiquettes are quite limited and they tends to be ignore the deeper side of those social etiquettes, Social etiquettes in the Yuan poetic drams has its literally function especially in the way of character shaping,atmosphere creating and culture revealing.
