The Study On Luxu Area In Song Dynasty

Luxu is located in the southwest border of China in Song Dynasty, southern margin of the Sichuan basin, which belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate. It distributes valleys, hills, and mountains. In this area, the Chinese, Wuman, Liao, and other nationalities were lived here. Due to the northern border pressure got larger than before, Song Dynasty loosely administrated the Luxu area at the early years of the Northern Song dynasty. However, after the Xi Feng period of Northern Song, the Song Dynasty largely explored the borderland of the south area, and leaded the minority and regional conflicts of Luxu area to reach a pinnacle. As for the political development trend of Luxu area, and the time that Luzhou as the important city of southern Sichuan, was began from this period. Since the Southern Song Dynasty,Luzhou governed the military and political power of Tongchuan, whose political status peaked. At late Southern Song Dynasty, as an important part of the Sichuan battlefield in Song-Mongolia war, Luxu area had several military conflicts, which impacted the strategic situation of Song-Mongolia war. The destructive effects of war is very great, the political status of Luxu region had plummeted. After Ming and Qing dynasties, Luxu region had no further political status liked Song.As the same trend of the political status’ change, the economic development of Luxu region also exhibited two sides low and middle high status. In the middle and late Northern Song Dynasty, the population of the Luxu region emerged explosive growth; this growth was a mechanical growth, due to the rise of the political status in this region. In addition, agriculture and animal husbandry had also made considerable progress, and the business market continued to expand. Luxu area is located in the frontier bordering between Song Dynasty and Dali, and played an important role in the trade of Song and Dali.Although the culture and education of Luxu area was relatively backward in the northern Song Dynasty, since the mid-northern Song Dynasty, with the support of the local government and some relegated officials to promote cultural and educational institutions, local culture and education had made considerable progress, and there were some people as officials by learning, Li you, Cheng Gongxu and others is one of the most outstanding representatives.Luxu region had some characteristics of southwestern border state, such as the military things were heavier, while the inner things were lighter; the requirements of military defense skills were higher than the requirements of economic development,and so on. Meanwhile, it also had its own features. For example, in southern song dynasty, Luzhou became the resident of Anfushi, who governed the Tongchuan fu road. Therefore, its political status was greatly improved, and had brought great changes of the Luxu area’s society. The commonness and individuality of these regions’ social and historical development will provide some valuable reference to us for study the history of song dynasty border and region.
