| As a branch of non-literary translation, legal translation poses a high demand for the abilities of translators due to its highly specialized knowledge and accuracy.Accuracy is the first element of legal translation, since serious international legal and economic disputes will be incurred by inaccurate expression, hence translation fails to play the role of a communication bridge. In addition, legal translation entails not only the translation competence of the translators, but also their professional knowledge of laws and codes.Only by mastering certain legal knowledge can a translator use flexible strategies and conduct appropriate translation. This thesis aims to explore the translation methods and strategies of Chinese legal contracts, citing the author’s translation practice,House Sale Contract,as an example.First of all,the stylistic features of the house sale contracts are summarized and analyzed from the perspectives of the target language. In the second place, the syntactic structure of the legal contracts is classified and illustrated through the instances on the basis of Chinese legal linguistics study, while concise and effective translation methods are summarized to further explore the English translation. Finally, the practical problems encountered during the translation practice are put forward in order to provide references for the translation of the same type of texts in the future. |
