The Influence Of Approach And Avoidance Movement On Facial Expression Processing

When a strange person walking to you,is he angry or fear?Of course you can determine it by his facial pattern,however study shows other information could influence that.Fridlund put forth that expression doesn’t only reflect emotion,it has more social information.This social information reflects people subconscious motivation.When people’s behavior suits to expression’s behavior motivation,it can be determined faster.Earlier research focused on how observer react after watching expression.This study talks about how approach and avoidance influence expression processing.Experiment 1:Use object picture to see if changing the size of picture is going to create bias,then use Jacobien’s method to study how approach avoidance influence expression processing.Experiment 2:Based on experiment 1,introduce in different connotation pair expression positive-negative,negative-negative,neutral-positive,neutral-negative to discover whether its going to influence.Experiment 3:Based on experiment 2,introduce into different sex to see whether it’s going to influence.Result:(1)The size of picture influence process,people tend to recognize faster when seeing bigger picture.(2)Neutral expression act like negative expression under positive and negative expression pair.When angry is paired with fear,it’s recognized faster when approaching.When it is paired with happy,it’s recognized faster when avoiding.It shows that pair emotion matters.(3)Andrea’s theory isn’t entirely true,when positive emotion paired with negative emotion,sex still matter.
