The Effect Of Female Voice Pitch On Long-term Memory In Men

Vocal sexual dimorphism is the differences in vocal masculinity and femininity characteristics between mature men and women with adolescent secondary sexual characteristics developing.As an important clue of sexual dimorphism,the voice is of great significance for mate choice.Because it's not only serves as an indicator of genetic quality,but may also signal behavioral traits desirable in a long-term partner.From a functionalist perspective,human memory should be attuned to information of adaptive value for one's survival and reproductive fitness.While evidence of sensitivity to survival-related information is growing,specific links between memory and information that could impact upon reproductive fitness have remained elusive.Most of previous studies explored reference to voice with sexual dimorphism in western countries,and so little study explored preference to voice with sexual dimorphism in oriental countries.This study aims to explore oriental individuals' preference to voice with sexual dimorphism based on oriental culture.And explore the male preference for this type of voice will increase or reduce its memory capacity.This study aims to explore oriental men's preference to voice with sexual dimorphism based on oriental culture and the influence of their preference of voice on long-term memory.In this study was used to design three experiments to explore oriental men's preference to voice with sexual dimorphism based on oriental culture and explore the links between memory and pitch,the effect of female voice pitch on long-term memory in men.Experiment 1 compares the degree of preference for four kinds of dimorphism voice(masculinity female voice,femininity female voice,masculinity male voice,femininity male voice),analysis whether there is preference bias to dimorphism voice.Experiment 2 made some extension based on experiment 1,the correlation between male voice pitch and voice preference was analyzed in order to explore whether or not the male voice pitch could predict their voice preference.Experiment 3 was based on the results of Experiment 1 to investigate whether the male voice preference could affect their memory.34 male college students were selected randomly from JiangXi Normal University,then asked them to complete the picture recognition task in differences vocal conditions.Subjects were compared whether there are differences in the four kinds of voice under the condition of memory performance,to explore the voice of preference whether impact on memory.Followings are the principal results and conclusions:1.Under Chinese background,male individuals have obvious preference tofemininity female voice and masculinity male voice.2.The men's voice pitch can't predict the strength of men's preference for femininity women's voice.And the men's voice pitch can't predict the strength of men's preference for masculine men's voice.3.The speaker's gender has an effect on men's memory,the female voice cuts men's memory,while the male voice enhanced men's memory.The speaker's pitch didn't affect the memory of the male.And men's visual object memory wasn't enhanced when an object's name is spoken during encoding in a feminized(higher-pitch)versus a masculinized(lower-pitch)female voice.
