As a leading director of a new generation of French films,Luc Besson has paved the way by creating a variety of films,each of which has been branded with his deeply personal style.At the same time,he manages to consistently surpass his own standards and create ever-changing experiences by bringing the audience newer levels of audiovisual enjoyment and emotional immersion.As a result,the box office sales are stunning for Besson’s films.As one of the most influential directors of France,Luc Besson’s films not only stand out in the category of artistic aesthetics,but are also widely present within the scope of everyday social culture.The perspectives within his films are unique,and their conception fresh and original.His creativity has a profound cultural connotation,which as brought a very positive impact to the French and international film scene.However,current research on the films of Luc Besson is based on analysis of the films’ ideological content,language,television presence,or the work as a whole.There is no systematic analysis of the film literature from a solely aesthetic point of view.Thus,the focus of this paper delves into the unusual perspective of film aesthetics.By analyzing the aesthetic processes inside Luc Besson films,as well as the movie trends and language in the United States,this paper delivers a study of aesthetic theory within the films covered,especially the depth to which the theory of film aesthetics can be advanced.This paper systematically analyzes the film literature of Luc Besson,comprising sixteen films directed between the start of his career and 2017.The paper is divided into four parts:the introduction of topic background,research summary,research content,methodology,and points of innovation.After the introduction,the second section combs through the aesthetic processes of Luc Besson within his films.In this part,we divide the films into three stages according to the time and events surrounding their release.Then,we can analyze the representative works of each stage and the aspects therein of artistic expression,humanistic care,and ideological connotations.The third section discusses the Besson’s film aesthetics,including the topics of tragic implications,feminist aesthetics,the aesthetics of conflict,and poetic expression.Highlights from research establish new meanings behind the tragedies implied within Luc Besson’s films as well as trace the development of feminism therein.The fourth section analyzes Luc Besson’s unique film language and aesthetic emotions in Luc Besson’s films.The first section focuses mainly on the formal aspects of the film and analyzes the tone of the film,which falls under various aspects,the classic film narrative,the symbol of the material,the personality of the dialogue,and the musical environment.Besides,namely the significance behind a need to purify the soul,as well as the theme of salvation by love.In conclusion,this paper provides critique and speculation surrounding recurring issues or problems in the films of Luc Besson,and there will also be references regarding the aesthetics of Chinese film,with the intention of serving as a valuable reference for the development of Chinese film in the years to come.The conclusion will reaffirm the original intention of this paper.
