In 2010,Shanghai Normal University and the University of Botswana were on the list of “20+20 Cooperation Plan for Chinese and African Universities” launched by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.So far,many breakthroughs have been made in the academic cooperation of Shanghai Normal University and the University of Botswana.“A Comparative Study of Tswana Culture and Chinese Culture” as one of the projects has turned out to be fruitful and productive.The author contributed to the project led by her supervisor as a translator for the translation of Saturday is for Funerals-.a book of Botswana author.This paper is based on the translation of Chapter Seven “It Is the Will of God,HIV and Tuberculosis” and Chapter Eight “Walking Skeletons and Hesitant Hugs,Toxicities and Resistance to Drugs Used to Treat HIV/AIDS”.This paper deals with two difficulties in translation concerning Tswana culture and medical terms.This paper discusses the difficulties and solutions in several aspects,including the cattle culture,the witch doctor culture and the religious culture,and the C hinese translation and format of medical terms.During this translation practice,the author has broadened her academic knowledge of Tswana culture and medical translation and improved her ability to deal with translation problems.The translation and research paper will enrich the research on Tswana culture and medical literature translation related to AIDS.
