Focus + Context indicator(referred to as FC indicator)is an indicator that adopted information visualization technology of Focus + Context(referred to as F + C visualization technology),which combined with the features of traditional digital and analog indicator.According to the F+C technology,FC indicator use the count as the focus information and trend display as the background information,that can adopted the features of traditional digital and analog indicators,to better meet the requirements of the indicator display.In this study,we adopted two-stage study to investigate the effectiveness of FC indicator and the display characteristics in different kind of tasks.The first study compare the performance of FC indicator,digital indicator,analog indicator in task of flight height planes count reading and trend of flight judging to explore the effectiveness of FC indicator in reading and trend judging tasks.The second study from the applicability point of view,to explore whether FC instrument suit for different conditions.The second experiment aimed to explore the impact of load on FC indicator by compare three kinds of indictors under high-load and low-load conditions.The third experiment aimed to study the effectiveness of F+C indicator in danger prompt by comparing FC with the traditional analog indication used in danger prompting.Based on our experiments’ result,we drew the following conclusions:1.FC indicator performed better both in reading and trends judgment tesk,thus can better take into account the reading and trend display.2.That load had impact on all the indicators,both in indicator reading and trend judgment task.Under the influence of load,the accuracy of readings tesk all decreased.The accuracy of the trend judgment of digital and FC indicators significantly reduced.Only analog indicators were not affected by the load.3.Under high load conditions,FC indicator still performed better than digital and analog indicators on reading and trend judgment task,thus can better take into account the reading and trend display.4.The original FC indicator can’t afford to achieve the danger prompting effectively.However,by adding color characterization,FC indicator can provide better danger prompting job.When using digital color to remind the risk status,the danger prompting display is the best.
