A nation and a society can be identified by language.Language can be used to set up many social relationships.Therefore,language is regarded as one of the most important symbols of ethnic identity and ethnic culture.In the academic circle,most of the researches on language are related to language attitudes.Many researches both at home and abroad on language attitudes are related to language learning and ethnic language attitudes.Seldom are related to typical Mongolian parents' language attitudes on choosing elementary schools for their school-aged children.The research purpose of the thesis is the study of Mongolian parents' language attitudes,which is based on three pairs of Mongolian parents' choosing elementary schools for their school-aged children.By means of interview,the thesis answers the following two research questions.One is three pairs of typical Mongolian parents' language attitudes in choosing elementary schools for their school-aged children;the other is the factors influencing the three pairs of Mongolian parents' language attitudes.The research proceeds in the way of qualitative interview adopted as the research method.The design of the research includes,(1)the confirmation of the research topic;(2)the choice of the research subjects;(3)the design of the interview;(4)the implementation of the interview;(5)the transcription and analysis of the interview.The conclusion of the thesis can be summed up.On the one hand,the three typical pairs of Mongolian parents' language attitudes can be learned.They hold positive and affirmative attitudes towards Mongolian;on the other hand,the factors influencing Mongolian parents' language attitudes can be learned,including social stratification,age,gender,education,family background,dominant language,and life experience,etc.The research of the thesis is of great significance.On the one hand,the thesis,featured by local linguistic phenomenon,provides a new perspective of linguistic researches on language attitudes and language choices.On the other hand,the thesis also provides a new perspective of ethnic language learning.
