As Chinese construction companies undertake an increasing number of oversea projects, and engineering translation plays an important media role in the international project construction, more and more attention is paid to the translation of construction documents. The translation task of Technical Code of Rose Hill is one important part of international bidding documents, which is established with an overall word number of about 130,000 by the employer of the construction project Rose Hill in Burma. The Chinese translation of this technical code is entrusted by one Chinese construction company to the translation group in which the thesis author completes the translation of 10,862 English words and its Chinese translation is about 16,150 words. This report based on the author's translation of one part of Technical Code of Rose Hill aims to explore the application of parallel texts in the technical code translation. At present, the studies on the parallel texts reference focus on the field of tourism texts translation and advertisement translation, while the study on the application of parallel texts in technical code translation is rare. Therefore, the purpose of this translation report is to present the application method and value of the parallel texts in the technical code translation with the guidance of skopos theory after analyzing the features of the source text. The thesis author makes a contrastive analysis with some typical examples selected from the parallel texts and the source text to demonstrate the guiding significance of the parallel texts on the aspects of word and expression, expertise and complicated sentences.Based on the analysis of this translation project, the author gets the following findings.the stylistic features and expertise of the source text give rise to the translation difficulties, including a mass of technical terms, expertise and complicated sentences and conditional sentences;the Skopos theory also demonstrates the reasonability of the reference to the parallel texts;the parallel texts can provide reference to the translators on the aspects of technical terms, technical expertise, and sentence pattern, which offers a criterion of fidelity and expertise for translation;finally, the parallel texts also plays the role of an eligible gauge for the translation to guarantee it is accepted by the target language receivers. The significance of this study is that this analysis on his own practical translation can give an example on how to use parallel texts in the field of technical code translation, and the method of parallel texts reference can be helpful for these translators and especially novices without professional knowledge of civil engineering;besides, this study offers a new angle of the parallel texts to make a pilot study on the technical code translation and even the engineering translation.
