Research On Bronze Ding Tripods Of The Yue Style

In 1979,Yu Weichao first brought up the concept of “Yue style bronze ding tripods”.Afterwards,many scholars produced a lot of research on this question.However,the design of the so-called “Yue style bronze ding tripods” is particularly complicated and diverse,and its spatial distribution very wide.Numerous scholars were unable to agree on a definition of “Yue style bronze ding tripods”.Therefore,it led to unclear and paradoxal knowledge of this concept.With the continuous enrichment of archaeological excavation material in the recent years,it is necessary to redefine the concept of the “Yue style bronze ding tripods”,and on this basis to carry out further analysis on the questions related to their typology,morphology,chronology,spatial distribution,development,sources and influences.The present research is divided into six parts as follow.The first chapter is the introduction.It presents the origin of the term “Yue style bronze ding tripods” and the definitions of the characteristics and features of this type of artifacts according to various scholars,which allows us to propose a clear and limited definition of the “Yue style bronze ding tripods”.The second chapter is dedicated to the morphological analysis of the Yue style bronze ding tripods.According to the characteristics of each parts of the vessels,the Yue style bronze ding tripods are divided into three types,eleven classes and fifteen sub-classes.And for the most numerous classes and sub-classes,where the features slowly change over time,a sequential analysis is carried out.The third chapter focuses on the chronology of the Yue style bronze ding tripods.According to the typological analysis and the date of the excavated feature the objects come from,the author establishes a periodization for each steps of development of this kind of bronze ding tripods.As a result,the development of the Yue style bronze ding tripods is divided into two periods and seven phases.The fourth chapter analyzes the spatial distribution of the Yue style bronze ding tripods.On the basis of the geographical distribution patterns of this type of bronze objects,the overall distribution of the Yue style bronze ding tripods is divided into three regions.The fifth chapter discusses the origins and development of the Yue style bronze ding tripods.The development,the origin and the evolution process of each type of Yue style bronze ding tripods is discussed here.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,where the results of this research is synthesized and summarized.
