Mass Music Features Of The Catholic Diocese Of Xi’an

Xi’an,the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties,is a historical and cultural site.It has been the origin of the land Silk Road and one of the confluences of Chinese and Western musical cultures since ancient times.Based on the history of Western Christian music and the history of Western and Chinese music communication,this paper takes the musical phenomena of the two Catholic churches in the north and south of the Diocese of Xi’an as practical cases,investigating and studying the mass ritual music of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Xi’an,then summarizes and elaborates the basic characteristics of mass ritual music in Xi’an diocese.From the orientation of Catholicism and its music,Chapter One generalizes the origin of Catholic Music and its dissemination in China.Chapter Two combs and interprets the Catholic Music in Xi’an from the perspective of history.Based on the music ontology,Chapter Three summarizes and analyzes the ceremony,opern,songbooks and Chorus of the Xi’an diocese mass liturgical music.Chapter Four interprets the characteristics of Xi’an mass ritual music from the multidimensional perspective of time and space: traditionalism,localization and urban musicality.
