Politics, Academia And The Confucian Temple Sacrifices In Song Dynasty

Being honored in the Confucian temple is very important to the Confucian school and their scholars.Achieving status in the Confucian temple showed that Confucian school and their scholars had made great contributions to the Confucianism development,and they had become the official philosophy.In Song Dynasty,Xin xue and Dao xue Confucianism has received such an honor successively.Wang Anshi and Zhu Xi had got great position in Confucian temple,not only because of the important contributions they made to Confucianism development,but also the political environment and academia at that time.The establishment of Confucian orthodoxy was the result of political influence and academic development.The Shaoshu Policy of Emperor Hui improved the position of Wang Anshi.And the conflicts between parties in Southern Song Dynasty restricted the development of Dao xue,but weakened Dao xue’s opponents in Confucianism and made Dao xue more perfect at the same time.Finally,Dao xue became the Confucian orthodoxy under the region of Emperor Lizong.The conversion of Confucian orthodoxy from Xin xue to Dao xue revealed the change of political and ideological environment in Southern Song Dynasty,played a positive role in strengthening emperor’s authority,promoted the development of Confucianism.In a word,the conversion of Confucian orthodoxy has a great significance to politics and Confucianism in ancient Chinese history.
