A Report On The Translation Of The Organized Mind:Thinking Straight In The Age Of Information Overload (Excerpts Of Chapter One)

This paper is a report on the translation of the excerpts of the first chapter(“TOO MUCH INFORMATION,TOO MANY DECISIONS”)of The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload,which analyzes the reasons why people now are usually overwhelmed by the information overload from the perspective of neuroscience.The original text mainly discusses the awkward situation when people have to make a decision in face of the flooded information,and provides tips on how to think clearly and manage information overload,such as how the brain deals with the information.The main contents of this translation report can be divided into five parts and mainly deals with the translation project background,objectives and significance,background of the source text and main contents of the source text,some translation difficulties and methods,translation theories applied in the work,some lessons from the project and problems to be solved.The translator,in accordance with Vermeer's skopos theory and Reiss' s classification of text type,has made a careful comparison of the similarities and differences between two languages,with the purposes of transmitting accurately the meaning of the original text but simultaneously focusing on the equivalent effect,hoping that the ordinary people can attain a general understanding the process of decision making of human brains.
