The Revision Of The Fear Of Compassion Scale For Middle School Students And The Applied Research

Fear of compassion is a new comprehensive concept which was based on the two studies,the studies for compassion and the studies for fear of positive emotions.It refers that some people will fear and reject to experience the feeling of compassion.According to the new foreign studies,Fear of compassion has a close relationship with individual mental health.It can effectively predict individual dangerous psychological factors such as depression,anxiety,self-harm,alexithymia and so on.So the quantitative analysis for the fear of compassion has a great theoretical and practical significance.The purpose of this paper was to revise the Fears of Compassion Scales which was created by American psychologist--Gilbert in 2011,to conformed with China’s cultural background and were suitable used for measurement of middle students ’ fear of compassion.Results showed that:(1)The revision of the fear of compassion scales consisted of 3 relatively independent but interconnected domains: Fears and difficulties in feeling compassion from others,for others,and for self,including 33 items.(2)The Cronbach’s Alpha of the three domains and the total were 0.746~0.920.Every domains has only one factor was obtained from the exploratory factor analysis.confirmatory factor analysis indicated that GFI 、AGFI、CFI、IFI ranged from 0.886 to 0.925,χ2/df=2.169<5,RMSEA=0.043<0.05.Indicates that the structure of the model was acceptable。The new version of the fear of compassion used for the middle school student attains acceptable psychometric properties.(3)Meanwhile,we had chosen 1211 students from 10 middle and high schools in Sichuan province,China,to explore the present situation of the Sichuan middle school students ’ fear of compassion,found that: The general situation of the fear of compassion of the middle school students is not very satisfactory,and nearly 1/3 of the middle school students have high level of the fear of compassion.And there is no significant difference in gender,but there were significant differences in grade,family location,family type,learning satisfaction and family living standard.
