On Simultaneous Interpreting Strategies Of Online Live Shows From The Perspective Of Uses And Gratifications Theory

In recent years,simultaneous interpreting has been ever widely applied in online live shows to deliver overseas programs timely and efficiently,so as to enhance the video view and active users’ stickiness.Based on Uses and Gratifications Theory,this paper chooses the 2016 Apple Special Event in September as a specific case and collects the instant comments made by the netizens during the online live broadcasting of Tencent,Sina and Netease.Through the observation and analysis of 521 comments on simultaneous interpreting,this paper gains a revealing insight about the needs of the audience and analyses whether the needs have been gratified.This paper finds out that besides accuracy,voice and fluency are also the criteria valued by the audience.Thus,four strategies are put forward:making specific preparation,mastering media and anchoring skills,unifying the glossary with the partner,and making trade-off according to the needs of the target audience.It is hoped that this paper can offer constructive suggestions to simultaneous interpreters and provide inspiration for future studies.
