"Inevitable Encounter":A Study Of The Influence Of Ogawa Shinsuke On Chinese Independent Documentary

In China’s cultural perspective,documentary is wandering in the national discourse and folk discourse.The former forms a kind of grand historical narration,which becomes the footnote of the official history.The latter comes from the individual will and seeks a kind of memory form which is different from the mainstream ideology.For anyone concerned about China’s social and cultural changes,independent documentary creation,since the 1990s,is an indispensable existence.As an enlightener of China’s independent documentary,Ogawa Shinsuke’s record spirit influences a generation of Chinese.At the same time,the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival has become China independent documentary’s "base camp".But as Benjamin introduced as a spiritual image rather than a philosophical idea in the 1980s,Ogawa Shinsuke was more of a "record spirit" when he entered the Chinese horizon.Therefore,there are many papers about Ogawa Shinsuke’s record spirit in the academic circles.However,his works are rarely mentioned.This reminds me that the way to focus on a generation of documentary masters must fall on his works,because any slogan of propaganda may lead to "idealistic perplexity".The thesis is trying to analyses Ogawa Shinsuke’s record spirit from history and his work and seeking the common philosophy value behind Chinese independent documentary creation.This paper mainly includes the following aspects:Firstly,through the development of Ogawa Shinsuke’s documentary development,clarify the evolution of its ideological trajectory,and clarify the true connotation of the spirit expression.On the basis of this,the paper analyzes the manifestation of Ogawa Shinsuke’s record spirit in the different Chinese documentary writers,and makes a concrete and in-depth analysis.Secondly,the author will focus on the two countries from the "documentary background","spatial relationship between space" and"conceptual cultural identity" three aspects of Ogawa Shinsuke.We can understand why his record spirit can be well accepted by Chinese independent documentary director.Finally,based on the present,we find that the relationship between Ogawa Shinsuke’s peers and successors and the independent documentary responds to the core proposition of this theory " Inevitable encounter between Ogawa Shinsuke and Chinese independent documentary" from another angle.Through the above discussion,this paper aims to provide a clear perspective for the Ogawa Shinsuke’s influence on Chinese independent documentary and provides a relatively unique perspective for the study of Chinese independent documentary.The documentary plays an important role in the construction of historical narrative discourse.The shaping of the roles is constrained and influenced by the narrators and the social identities of the subjects.It also shapes their social status and historical status.Ogawa Shinsuke participated social movements and described soul of the people,and he made 18 works to complete his interaction with the world.Chinese independent documentary rises from the fracture and rebirth in the 1990’s,and now moves ahead on the vast realities.The author believes that the reason why Ogawa Shinsuke and Chinese independent documentary are able to cross the language barrier is we share a common ideal and spiritual goal.The study of Ogawa Shinsuke’s encounter with Chinese independent documentaries will help us to grasp the profound connotations of Chinese independent documentaries through complicated representations and promote Chinese independent documentary.
