| On 18 th,April,2013,International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA)published The Safety Case and Safety Assessment for the Predisposal Management of Radioactive Waste, which provided recommendations for development and review of the safety case and supporting safety assessment for facilities and activities dealing with the predisposal management of radioactive waste. The English text of nuclear material has its own distinct characteristics, which requires translators must understand the stylistic features of English for nuclear materials and be familiar with the corresponding translation principles and techniques,so as to achieve a flexible translation in practical translation activities. This report is on the translation practice of The Safety Case and Safety Assessment for the Predisposal Management of Radioactive Waste, aiming at providing some reference for Chinese researchers in the field of radioactive waste. On the basis of Nida’s functional equivalence theory and the analysis of the characteristics of scientific English, the translator cites a large number of examples in translation text and then puts forward the translation strategies of nuclear technical English at three levels: vocabulary, syntax and textual equivalence. Finally, the author summarizes the translation practice and faithfully reflects the translation methods such as literal translation, liberal translation, changing from passive voice to active voice and adjusting translation order.During this process, the author also summarizes problems encountered and the methods to deal with these problems. The author finishes the translation task within the required time.In this process, the author finds that there are some defects existing in understanding long and complicated English for nuclear materials. Therefore, through this translation practice, the author summarizes the translation methods and principles of nuclear technical English texts,so as to provide references for translation of similar scientific and technical texts in the future. |
