An Analysis Of The Sonorant's Nasality And The Other Acoustic Features For Disyllabic Words In Beijing Dialect

Disyllabic words in Beijing dialect is the basic research object in the paper.The disyllabic words are divided into six kinds of combinations.The vowels,the initials/m?n?l?r/and the nasal endings in these six combinations are the main research objects.First of all,investigate the sonorant's nasality in the six kinds of combinations by Kay Nasometer 11 6400.And then analyze the other acoustic features,including duration,intensity and formants.Finally,analyze the relationship between nasality and duration,intensity,formants.Through the experiments,we draw the main conclusions:1.The rules of the sonorant's nasality for disyllabic words.(1)Initials/m?n?l?r/:The nasality of the initials/m?n?l?r/in disyllabic words is higher than that in monosyllabic words.When there is a nasal ending in the first word,the second word of nasal initial/m?n/will merge the nasal ending before into a longer pure nasal,we call it double nasal.(2)Nasal endings:The nasality of the nasal endings in disyllabic words is lower than that in monosyllabic words.The nasal endings in disyllabic words are weaker than that in monosyllabic words.And the nasal ending/-n/is weaken easily than the nasal ending/-?/.When there is zero initial in second word,the nasal endings in the first word are easily to nasalize the vowel in front of it.And the nasalized rate is the highest.When there is plosive or affricate in the second word,the nasality of nasal endings in the first word is close to the nasal endings in monosyllabic words.That is to say the nasal endings won't weaken or nasalize the vowels in this kind of combination.When there is fricative in the second word,the nasality of nasal endings in the first word weaken greatly.The nasality of nasal ending varies with different vowels.The nasality of nasals preceding with/a/is the lowest and that of/i/is the highest.The nasal endings followed with low vowels are weaken more easily.This rule in disyllabic words is the same as the rule in monosyllabic words.(3)Vowels:When there are voiceless consonants both in the first and the second word,the nasality of the vowels behind them will be increased or reduced compared with the monosyllabic words.However,When there are initials/m?n?l?r/or nasal endings in disyllabic words,the nasality of the vowels will be increased by the effect of them.The nasality of vowels/i/a/are the highest,and/u/e/are the lowest.The lower and more front of the tongue position,the higher of the nasality.The higher and more behind of the tongue position,the lower of the nasality.This rule in disyllabic words is the same as the rule in monosyllabic words.(4)Gender effect on the nasality.Separate the statistics of male and female,and we found that the nasality of sonorant produced by females is higher than that of males.But according to T test,gender has no significant influence on nasality of sonorant in disyllabic words.2.The relationship between sonorant's nasality and duration,intensity,formants.Pearson correlation analysis shows that there is a correlation between the nasal endings' duration and nasality.The longer of the duration of nasal endings,the higher of the nasality.The shorter of the duration of nasal endings,the lower of the nasality.There are three kinds of nasal endings,they are normal ending,weaken ending,and nasalized ending.The duration of these three kinds of nasal endings shows a decreasing trend.But there is no correlation between the initials/m?n?l?r/and vowels' duration and nasality.And there is no correlation between intensity,formants and nasality too.
