A Study On C-E Translation Of The Story Of Wenchang Culture(the Second Part)

This study object of the essay is the translation of the The Story of Wenchang Culture.Under the guidance of the author’s tutor,the author collected relevant materials about Wenchang culture and redacted them again with a team member.Wenchang culture reflects China’s thousands of years’ political thought,religious philosophies,ideology,moral category,and so on,it is a cultural phenomenon which possesses systematicness,complexity,historicality,and local color.Wenchang culture deeply rooted in people’s hearts,and especially has far-reaching influence to those who live in its birthplace.To make more foreign readers know Wenchang culture,and to make more people could help to promote Wenchang culture thus to facilitate cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,the author compiled The Story of Emperor Wenchang and translated it into English with one team member under the guidance of the tutor.During the translating process,the author inevitably came across lots of translation problems,such as the translation of deity’s names,translation of ancient toponym,translation of ancient official titles,and so on.To solve all these problems,the author read lots of translation works and books about translation theory.The author learned a lot during the whole translation process.After making comparison and analysis,considering that target of the translation was to promote excellent traditional Chinese culture overseas,the author finally made Venuti’s foreignizing translation strategy the guiding translation strategy.At the same time,make domesticating translation its supplemented translation strategy.In order to sum up the whole translation process thus to analyze problems met during translation and their corresponding solutions,the author wrote this paper.On the other hand,the author hopes that this paper could work as a reference to other scholars who are also translating relevant works about Wenchang culture.That means,when they meet some problems while translating,the author hopes this paper could give them some help in translation methods.
