The Relationship Between Affiliation Motivation And Group Information Sharing And Its Impact On Individual Intention And Behavior

In the process of group discussion,the friendly and harmonious’ atmosphere can promote the formation of more similar shared mental models,and produce the information sharing effects.In this study,based on the motivation factors of the formation of shared mental model(i.e.afiliation motivation),how different primed affiliation motivation influence the formation of shared mental model through group discussion,and the mechanism of improving the intention and forecasting behavior are explored.There are two studies in this paper.In the first study,a 2 × 3 between-subject design is adopted,and making a distinction in the effects on the formation of the shared mental model and the effects of group discussion on the enhancement of intention between two priming conditions(affiliation motivation vs,control group)and there group size(2-group vs.3-group vs.6-group).In the second study,on the basis of the study 1,the enhanced affiliation motivation priming condition and behavioral measurements are added;single-factor with three levels(high affiliation motivation vs.low affiliation motivation vs.control group)between-subject design is employed,to further compare the effects of different priming conditions on the formation of the shared mental model,and the mechanism of motivated treatment to improve intention,behavioral frequency and intention-behavior consistency.The results show that:(1)Affiliation motivation can increase the similarity of shared mental model among group members after the group discussion;(2)Individual intention will be enhanced after the group discussion,no matter in what kinds of experimental conditions.(3)The influence of group size on the similarity of shared mental model is not significant,but the interaction between group size and affiliation motivation is remarkable.And the 6-group under the driver of affiliation motivation,compared to the control group,shows a more similar shared mental model;However,the group size has a greater impact on individual behavior intention,compared to 2-group and 3-group,6-group members have more stronger behavior intention.(4)Group identity has the role of reinforcing affiliation motivation,which has greater influence on the formation of similarity of shared mental model,improving individual intention and the intervention of behavior.(5)After the group discussion,affiliation motivation moderates the moderating effect of the similarity of shared mental model on the intention-behavior relationship;that is,the more stronger affiliation motivation is,the more similar shared mental models are,and the more greater predictive validity of the intention to behavior is.
