| The mid-Northern Song Dynasty is a period of cultural prosperity and thought development in the history of our country. A great number of outstanding note- writings spring up at this time, Dong Zhai ji shi is one of them. The origin of the materials of the book is mainly from what the author heard and saw in person, or chatted with relatives and friends, or read in books since the early age. The author Fan Zhen spent his official career in the reign of four emperors including Renzong, Yingzong, Shenzong and Zhezong with a span of nearly five decades (1038—1086),during which he entered Imperial Academy three times and served as the interviewer four times. He knew the politics and customs very well.Dong Zhai ji shi covers a wide range of contents, including the history of the imperial court, laws and regulations, geography and folk customs, chariots and robes,feasts, commonalty anecdotes, etc. They have values in many aspects and is worthy of deep research and utilization. However, the examination and systematic studies on Fan Zhen and his Dong Zhai ji shi in the academic circles have never been made by now(only some sporadic quotes of the clauses from the book). Therefore, Dong Zhai ji shi has high research value and broad research space.This paper takes Dong Zhai ji shi as the research object, and strives to elaborate comprehensively. The introduction of this article briefly describes the history of the development of the notes and generalize the contents of the book; then gives a brief review of the research status of Dong Zhai ji shi; finally expounds the significance of the research, the methods I employ and difficulties it remains. In Chapter 1, by referring to historical data,I offer a personal narrative of Fan Zhen and introduce his different works.In Chapter 2, The paper has an systematic analysis of the compilation, circulation and version of Dong Zhai ji shi. In Chapter 3, I give an overall study of the text content of Dong Zhai ji shi. Not adhering to the original volume numbers, I will analyze its sources.By classifying and integrating them in accordance with contents, I will extract valuable information. In Chapter 4, the paper observes the contents of Dong Zhai ji shi by comparing it with some official history classics such as The History of Song Dynasty and Xu Zi Zhi Tong Jian Chang Bian. It can be found that the book not only provides materials for official history classics, but also is more detailed than them in some aspects.Therefore, the book can be used to enrich the official history books. Dong Zhai ji shi also remains a lot of materials which do not appear in official history books, thus helping to restore the original appearance of history. In this chapter, the book is also compared with other notes and essays of the later scholars. Owing to the fact that the book is absorbed by many notes and essays, we can revise them by mutual reflection. With the discussion of the four chapters, I seek to develop a greater understanding of Fan Zhen and his Dong Zhai ji shi, with a view to have a reference to the later researchers. |
