Based on the philosophy,being skilful and clumsy has great influence on aesthetics.The idea of being skillful and clumsy has been continuously enriched and elaborated on from Lao Tzu to Chuang-tzu over the past thousands of years,which has a profound influence on natural science and humanities.Chinese traditional culture is broad and profound,and the book design is one of the most representative vehicles for it.The design of the book cover is an important part of the book design,whose concept should be deeply rooted in the extraordinary traditional culture.The Chinese philosophy and aesthetic ideas should be integrated into designing book covers in order to create book covers characterized with nation cultural features while serving the content as well.This paper studies the design of book covers on its being skillful and clumsy in terms of aesthetics,suggesting that only when the designers take full advantage of traditional culture,can they reflect the cultural spirit of book design better.In addition,the book cover design is interpreted in this paper from a new perspective,and approached by way of case studies in terms of the color,layout,font design,materials and the printing process.The study of the formal beauty of being skillful and clumsy in the book cover is also the emotional expression of the content in the book and the designer,and it combines being skillful with being clumsy harmoniously.At the same time,it is extremely important to pay attention to the aesthetic perception of readers.Therefore,in order to make the visual experience of readers satisfy the psychological needs of readers in book design,we must first understand the importance of treating the dialectic relationship of being skillful and being clumsy at the core of the book design.And the designer should further understand the expression of the book cover design and help readers to improve their aesthetic values,thus promoting their reading interest and endowing the book design with vitality and emotional power.
