A Study On The Narration Articles Of Liu Chenweng

The existing narration articles of Liu Chenweng are 110,the number of which is not only considerable,but the level is also high.Liu Chenweng is the master who produced the maximum number of narration articles in the late Song Dynasty.Based on the texts,this thesis divides Liu Chenweng’s narration articles into five groups according to the description objects,which include the pavilion,the temple,the mind,the characters and the miscellanies.The present study aims at providing an overall understanding of Liu Chenweng’s narration articles.The narration articles of Liu Chenweng were estimated written in the period of the late Song Dynasty to the early Yuan Dynasty,which coincided with the decline to the end of the Southern Song Dynasty.Considering Liu Chenweng’s narration articles as the research objects,the current study attempts to explore Liu’s literary creation and spiritual world.In order to establish statements of a school in troubled times,Liu extremely stresses on the function of words,and he advocates that articles should have an utter innocence,to send injustice and truly reflect the reality.The turbulent society and the decline of the nation brought him not only the emotional lament and spiritual loss,but also an inspiration in a profound orthodox culture of the Taoist people to the responsibility of saving Confucianism and the preservation of the end of the Song Dynasty in its literary world.Therefore,in addition to inheriting the Northern Song Dynasty’s narration writing tradition that the main body of the text is based on the discussion and the narrative as a supplement,Liu also put a lot of feelings into his articles,which becomes an important window for us to understand his spiritual world.Liu Chenweng’s narration articles reflect distinctive personal characteristics,his works never scratch the predecessors,and he always keeps moving on arts.As for the structure of Liu’s narrations,they are purposive novelty,eclectic and they truly reflect the reality.In terms of the technique of expression,Liu developed Ou Yangxiu and Su Xuns’ narrative model to a peak to advocate injustice and the implementation of self assertion.Moreover,Liu is skilled in giving quotations from classics or ancient works,thus making his articles elegant,meaningful and reasoning thorough.In general,on the basis of many masters view in North Song Dynasty,Liu’s narration articles are unconventional and self-contained.By putting narration articles as a new entry point of view,this thesis can enrich the case studies of Liu Chenweng’s works as well as improve the research of his prose.Furthermore,it can restore the status of "Mr.Xuxi at the end of the Song Dynasty,the article morality for a time crown".
