On The Images Of Bandit And Ranger In Shen Congwen’s Writings

Shen Congwen,a master in literature was skilled in describing scenes,by which to express his feelings and emotions.The gallery of his elaborately sculptured characters is of different forms and distinctive feaures.The characters in his writing can be classified as dominant and marginal groups.The natural,unassuming and retiring characters that lived at ease could be exemplified as the old boatman,Yaoyao and Cuicui;while the wild,doughty,powerful and unconstrained characters can be exemplified as wizards,bandits,rangers,prostitutes,sailors and cursors.This thesis foucued on bandits and rangers;took the character images as the pointcut;and deliberated the potential meanings of the heterodox groups in his writings in the aspects of nature,culture and mentality,by which to reflect the local customs and practices of western Hunan and the inner journey during Shen’s process of literature production.The thesis was divided into three chapters.The first chapter analyzed the origins of bandits and rangers in western Hunan in his writings.We deeply studied the principle in the aspect of natural geographical environment factors and humane environment of life fashion of Chu State,and explore the potential effects imposed on the bandits and rangers by these innate natural conditions and acquired inherited humane factors.The second chapter analyzed the characteristics of bandits and rangers in western Hunan.The chapter focused on the analysis of specific and distinctive characteristics of bandits in Shen’s writing by dividing clauses and subclauses,with the aims of excavating the latent and well-rounded portrayal in his literature,which will also expected to support the readers with some knowledge about rangers.The third chapter was to seek the inner journey of Shen Congwen during the process of literature production by analyzing the complication between bandits and rangers...
