With the development of dynamic translation process, translation is not merely the trans-coding of words or sentences, but a comprehensive action.Translation studies is seen as an inter-disciplinary work by Mary Snell-Hornby.Her integrated approach to translation is viewed as an alternative to traditional approach featured by dichotomy and the categorization of the text.Drawing upon the Eleanor Rosch’s prototypology and Gestalt psychology, the integrated approach along with its strategies to translation are applied to the translation practice as well as the translation report. This report is based on the group work of the English-to-Chinese translation task. The source text is the excerpt from the book Translation Studies(Third Edition)written by Susan Bassnett. The integrated approach is in line with the top-down(macro-to-micro)model.And relevant disciplines, such as comparative linguistics, intercultural communication, pragmatics, literature, psychology.Specific theories including relevance theory, invisibility of translators, functionalist theory and scenes-and-frames semantics are borrowed and incorporated in this integrated approach. With the in-depth study and application of Snell-Hornby’s integrated approach, translation studies is seen as an independent discipline with the top-down procedures covering relevant disciplines. This holistic perspective takes account of multiple factors and expands the horizon of translation studies. It paves the way to the integrated approach to translation studies in the 21 st century.
