Paul Ricoeur’s Criticism Of Metaphorical Theories

In the field of traditional philosophy,metaphor has been concealed under the form of metaphor and substitution,which does not play a key role in human understanding of the world and its own development.In the study of modern English and American linguistics,metaphor is also far away from the center of research.Until the second half of the 20 th century,Paul Ricoeur and other great thinkers believe that metaphor should be the center of human thought.As the most difficult part of linguistics,metaphor gets a new interpretation in Paul Ricoeur’s " living metaphor ",if Paul Ricoeur is to criticize the previous metaphor theory,rather he is absorbing the essence of the former metaphor theory,and then advance his theory.In the criticism of the classical rhetoric,Paul Ricoeur analyzes the translation of Aristotle from the perspective of metaphor,then criticizes the " statement " and special status of words in traditional rhetoric to reveal the role and significance of Aristotle’s metaphor interpretation of Paul Ricoeur.In the criticism of semantics,because metaphor is the topic in traditional semantics,Paul Ricoeur not only needs to study the survival mechanism of metaphor,also tries to reconcile the differences between the semantic semantics and sentence semantics,to show the deficiency of semantics metaphor research and the thing that Paul Ricoeur should inherit and carry forward.Finally,in the construction of metaphor interpretation,from the perspective of " similarity tension "," metaphor reference " and " philosophy of metaphor ",put metaphor in ontology philosophy,to study the relationship between metaphor and other parts theory and its influence and value.
