The Research On The Incident Which Occured At Hehuang Area In Late Qing Dynast(1895)

Twenty-one years of Qing Emperor Guangxu(1895),in Gansu province,there was a Hui,Salar mass Moslem incident against the rule of the Qing government,and it took more than a year,has brought calamities to the people of all ethnic groups in Gansu.Local officials of the Qing government take the wrong measures to deal with the new and old sectarian disputes in Islam,the accumulation and development of the conflicts between the Hui nationality and the Han nationality,long-term implementation of unequal ethnic policies and other factors together constitute the cause of the incident.The Qing government in the beginning can not effectively deal with the case,then sent Kashgar Admiral Dong Fuxiang to repression.After Dong Fuxiang to Gansu,using the dual strategy of repression and appeasement,first solved the plight of Hezhou City,and then presided over things in Xining,cleared the periphery,to Guangxu twenty-two years(1896)in October to quell the Hehuang incident.After the incident,local officials led by Tao Mo,the implementation of relief for refugees,recovery and development of agricultural production,strengthen the military defense,the abolition of the Islamic portal system and other rehabilitation measures,gradually stabilized the situation in Hehuang area.Hehuang incident(1895)profoundly affected the social situation in the northwest region,one of its specific manifestations is the abolition of the Salarist traditional chieftain and the religious leader system,the two is the Northwest Hui local military strength to rise.
